• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have had my radio for a few years now and have not programmed for at least two.

I have a newer PC running Win7 x64. I have downloaded & installed the newest (and had the older) drivers for the radio and tried using the Software V1.4, V2.0, and also the newest V2.11.

I plug in the cable and the software loads and then I open these versions and while they all open I cannot see any of the writing like File, Command ( for port selection) etc...

So, I went in and downloaded the KG-UVD1P WIN8 software and that opens fine and I'm able to see everything on the menu etc... but I'm unable to select the com port and get into the radio.

What do you all make of this? I never had issues before programming this unit so what did I miss, if anything?

I have selected to run as admin on all even installing and uninstalling the drivers as admin...So, I'm stumped.

Maybe I'll wait for the new bad boy they have coming out for DMR but, I'd like to get into this radio now that I have an issue.

Thanks in advance.

Help

I'd check to see if the driver is installed try a different USB port and wait a few minutes before you open the software let it install drivers again.

It was the driver and found this page to be most useful. Wouxun Software Download - Baofeng Software Download

Anyone using Windows 7 or above having an issue getting the radio (cable) to recognize in Device Manager follow what they say to do in the link. It is because of the Chinese (Copied) chip inside the cable!

What I did was downloaded the older driver, let windows automatically update to the new one, rolled back to the older driver and the port was recognized. I then installed the Windows 8 version of the software and all has been good.

Thanks.

If you are running Windows 8 or earlier the previously posted instructions are good but if you are running Windows 10 the counterfeit cables are more trouble than they are worth. Even if you get the driver rolled back to the previous version it is just a matter of time before Windows update automatically rolls it forward again. This is on top of the other issues I saw such as random timeout errors. Getting a cable that has a FTDI chip is the way to go as they are truly plug and play. There is normally around a $10 difference in the cost when compared to the generic cable but at least in my opinion the lack of constant issues especially in Windows 10 has made it worth the difference.
