October 17, 1971 a tornado took out much of the business district of Wray, CO. The State Patrol radio site was in the same place but way different. It had a rope start generator, a short stick of Rohn 45 tower and only 5 transmitters, three on VHF hi band, two on low band. None of them were high powered. They were not on the state microwave system. I drove to the site to see why the radio system was totally out. My successor out of the state patrol radio shop in Sterling had the engine on the generator apart trying to figure out why it would not start. Radio communications were being handled out of Akron and Yuma. My have things changed.
