My new 436HP arrived yesterday. I was able to set the Zip Code and activate the national database. But I still can't write to it. The firmware needs to be updated, and I can't do it until I fix the writing problem.

The scanner firmware says 1.28.14. I need to update it to 2.03.

I can't upload my Favorites List until I fix the writing problem.

Any ideas? TIA

You need to explain a little more about your write issue. What is happening and what exactly are you doing? Are you using Sentinel? When you connect to the software/PC, are you hitting the E (Enter key) and seeing Mass Storage appear on the screen of the radio? The more detail you give the easier it will be too assist.

I found this link: https://uniden.my.site.com/support/s/article/bcdx36hp-updating-the-firmware-and-database2; on Uniden's website.

  1. Connecting the scanner to the computer (USB Cable Detected Select USB mode will display)
  2. Press "E" to select "Mass Storage".
  3. Select the UPDATE tab on the Sentinel software toolbar and click UPDATE FIRMWARE
  4. Click OK on the next window that comes up
  5. Once the update is completed, disconnect the scanner from the computer to allow the firmware to apply itself to the scanner. You will see a status bar in the screen of the scanner and then the scanner will start up once more on its own.
  6. Reconnect to the computer
  7. Select the UPDATE tab on the Sentinel toolbar once more and click UPDATE MASTER HPDB
  8. When the update is complete, select the SCANNER tab on the toolbar
  9. Click on the WRITE TO SCANNER and then OK on the next window

I got all the way to #9. When I try to do that, it can't find the MicroSD card.

Between 6 & 7 you should be prompted to put the scanner in Mass Storage Mode again. You've done this?
