Gotcha. With my luck, I'm not a fan of refurbs.
I've had several refurbished items over the years...they all worked great and lasted well. But I understand your reluctance if you've had bad luck going that route. I'd have jumped onto the $165 price for a refurb'd 1040 or (more likely) 1065 except that P2 is on its way here...none yet but it's coming. And I've become kind of addicted to DMR. My 1098 works well with the latter but the GRE500-pattern scanners shade it on audio and P1 decode quality. In fact I've unchecked most of the non-DMR lists and it primarily just does that for now. My old Pro-197 sits next to it and just rolls on for the statewide P25 TSYS.

Good to hear about the audio quality DJ. Granted, I'm comparing it to the cheapest possible device that could scan, but the audio sounds great on it.

Well, UPS dropped my WS1040 off before 8AM today. Guess they're trying to beat the appoceclipse crowds! Programming was a breeze using Win500, other than forgetting to add everything to a scan list. DOH! Once I figured that out (never did in Win500, was very intuitive in PRSedt), I've been listening to all the craziness all morning with the amount of people that are in town for the event.

Also, now that I have it in my grubby little paws, I now see what was meant about how easy it is to create multiple scan lists and enable / disable them at will. And that's the route I'll be going for neighboring counties to keep scan speed at it's highest when I'm at home.

So I stopped by Radio Shack on the way home today, and picked up one of the recommended (old thread) RS 800Mhz antenna. It's incredible the difference it made on trunked traffic RX. NCHP is loud 'n clear now, and with very little loss to local conventional bands. Thought about picking up one of the center loaded extendable antenna as well, any reason to do so? In other words, how much do they help pull in distant stuff while indoors?

Also, it dawned on me today while trying to remember which scan lists I put what in, that there's a much easier way to keep tabs on it. Simply use the alpha tags on the keypad for the corresponding county. Scan list 2 for Cherokee Co, list 4 for Graham Co, etc.
