Be sure to push the plug all the way into the radio, many times I have had it almost in thinking it was and it just needs the last oh 1/8 inch push all the way in.
Other thing to look at is be sure its plugged into the PCIF port and not the headphone jack.
Radio needs to be on and scanning.

The WS1040 is the handheld equivalent of the WS1065, the programming should be nearly identical... one isn't any more difficult to program than the other.

Does your cable still work with your WS1040 scanners?

I see you are using PSREdit software, have you checked Windows device manager to confirm that the cable has been assigned a COM port?

If you're sure that the cable is in the "PCIF" jack (directly below the vol/sq knob), It might be time to try a factory reset for the scanner....

To reset to original factory defaults, turn the scanner on and, while the "welcome display" is shown, press 0 then 1 then ENTER.

You have to be quick to press "0" (zero) before the screen changes away from the "Welcome" display. This will clear all memories, and globally reset all settings.

Far as PSREdit and the cable drivers, nice thing is if the cable driver is not installed, PSREdit will popup a box saying the drivers aren't installed.

I had someone come to me about 7-8 years ago with then 'likely' a pro 197, equivalent to the ws1065. My cable worked everywhere, but his radio. I even went into the local radio shack store as they knew me, tried a different cable of theirs, didnt work. The radio itself was the issue. Hopefully not your issue.

Just had someone same model, same issue. Tried different usb ports, tried 2 different cables, 2 different computers. Seemed everything else works, but the PCIF port.
used PSREdit500. Tried the direct cable method and COM port methods, tried to have it search for COM port too, no luck.
Since he just bought it, taking it back.

Manufacturing date was 08A21

I don't recommend the 1065 for Ingham, since they are using simulcast - multiple towers, Unidens do better with that.
Uniden model’s that are digital, prices lowest to highest:
996P2, 325P2, 436HP, Home Patrol2, 536HP, SDS 100, SDS 200.
The SDS models are expensive, but work flawlessly in counties as yours with multiple towers.

See WS1040/WS1065 vs Simulcast 800

Update to what I wrote in #12, the faulty one was sent back and he was sent a different unit, this one works, he was happy!

So to me snowmantkmc, would be to send it back and replace it. Again though its not a model I would choose for your area due to simulcast. Unless you live say a mile or so away from a tower it would work.
