Hello,

I have no idea on what im doing wrong, Ive entered the frequencies for the sites near me, duplicated them for different talk-groups, put them in scan list 1, but im getting no actual rx audio, some blips and static/data noise but no actual radio traffic. Anyone have an idea on what im doing wrong? This whole thing is new to me. Also with Berrien going simulcast, is that going to be a problem?

Thanks!

Heres what ive done so far

I don't have any Whistler scanners but have passed the link to this thread on to a buddy who does.

Yes, it will likely be a problem if you're within range of two or more towers on the simulcast. Feel free to try the multipath mitigation methods outlined here, you may or may not have success. The Uniden SDS100 & SDS200 were designed with simulcast multipath in mind

There are a number of single-cell sites in Berrien County. Are any of these near you & if so, do they carry traffic you're interested in?

All of the single-cell sites you listed above, with the exception of Watervliet have just been migrated to simulcast, with Watervliet changing in Q1 of 2025.

OP only has the frequencies for the Simulcast site so that should be OK. Yes, simulcast distortion can be a problem.

I only see one talkgroup with TGID 1 which doesn't match anything in Berrien County.
Im new to this scanner programming, do i create a new talk group for each frequency or?

St. Joseph, Coloma, Watervliet, Sawyer, would all have traffic that would be nice to listen to.

To be specific, these are the channels I'm hoping to listen to.

I appreciate all the replies so far.

Not that this matters, but looking at the photo you provided, you aren't interested in listening to Fire, EMS, or Law?

You need to enter in the control channels for each site, and then enter in the talkgroups you want to monitor.

Being in Stevensville focus on these three control frequencies.

852.7875 CC
851.775 ACC
859.475 ACC
Because this is now simulcast, St. Joseph, Coloma, Sawyer, Grand Beach, Sumnerville all carry the exact same traffic. There is no reason to enter individual sites. Just the three freqs above and call in Berrien Simulcast.

Don't worry about the watervliet site, you won't hear it from Stevensville. I read that in a couple weeks it will be part of the simulcast cell.

I would add talkgroup 3005 bbd D STATW5 Statewide District - 5 because that's were the really interesting stuff happens.

Your scanner will struggle with simulcast. Might be time to sell it and pickup an SDS or Unication pager. There is a wiki for simulcast distortion, you should read up on that. Try using just a paper clip for an antenna, start with it coiled up, then uncoil and record results. Bend it back to the position where you heard the most traffic. There are several simulcast site throughout Michigan. If you travel the simulcast distortion is probably going to be worse in a mobile situation.

FYI, I live at Cleveland and Maiden Lane.

If you and @jimsokol haven't done so yet, submit the changes to the database? The stand alone sites, with the exception of Watervilet (temporarily), could be removed since you are both on top of this. Thanks for the updates from an occasional traveler to the area.
