I currently own a PSR500 which does a nice job with on voice quality on P25 digital. However it does not handle phase 2 which I assume 1080 does. As far as decoding and voice quality goes is this unite on par with the GRE scanners? I also have a Home Patrol 2 which I don't think can compare to my GRE.

I have a PSR 500 and a PSR 800 that I often run side by side. I record around 40,000 hits a month. There is a no difference in the two radios as far as decoding and sound quality. I monitor 3 P-25 Systems - Phase I and both analog and digital trunked systems and numerous conventional frequencies. Since the Whistler 1080 is very similiar to the PSR 800 you will find it to be much like your 500. I cannot address Phase II which both the 800 and 1080 will decode since there is no Phase II in my area.

I have a radio pro 106 it does a great job with p25 we have in our area p25 phase 2 so I bought a 1080. The pro 106 does a much better job on conventional and p25. The 1080 will stop on phase 2 broadcast but there is no sound. I had a 436 but it did not out perform the pro 106 on p25 so I sent it back.

Is the WS 1080 easy to program as the GRE PSR500? I use Win500 which I find easy.

Pretty close to the same software for both.

Incorrect. The WS1080 uses EZScan to program which software is nothing like WIN500, PSREdit500 or ARC500. Programming using EZScan is a complete new learning curve from the PSR500.

Agreed. Easier in some ways and more difficult in other ways. Overall, I think it is easier because you don't have to know anything about radios.

Yep. EzScan (so much for truth in advertising) is like learning a new language after using the intuitive software of WIN500, ARC and PSREdit.

I'm assuming you can program your own frequencies etc. with the 1080? Other than using RR database.
