In the past I've heard WSP Air Ops on WISCOM or a VHF Interop (i.e.: MARC) but the last couple of times they have been in the area I have heard nothing. Today I heard the plane call into Post that they were airborne however I'm hearing nothing on the normal places. This weekend I had the plane overhead and saw the parade of cruisers waiting for instructions but heard nothing. So I know it isn't a range issue.

Anyone have any insight into where they might have gone? The dreaded "E"? Today they are running the operation on I-94 sometimes will have ECSD participate with the troopers.....that adds to the mystery as I don't think ECSD has WISCOM availability.

Just thought I'd toss out to everyone and see if anyone has any ideas.

I'm in Eau Claire County. WSP announced a couple of weeks ago that they would have air ops going in several areas of the state giving dates and locations.

They are probably using a simplex VHF High Band channel. If the cars have vehicular repeaters you can have a close range mobile to mobile frequency by just deleting the encode tone. When I was a Trooper we had vehicular repeaters. The last channel in the portable was the mobile repeater frequency. The next channel to last was the same frequency 155.505 with no tone which would not activate the repeater.

They might be using a simplex car to car channel or a Tactical or Detail channel. Many times it is a disadvantage to use a trunked frequency for details because of the time lag associated with trunked radio systems.

i just checked the database and WSP has an air to ground frequency. Try programming it. Last I read was WSP was using a wireless microphone extender on 800 MHz instead of more typical Pyramid vehicular repeater.

Maybe I'll try listening on the old VHF (i.e.: 154.680 EC Post) and see if maybe that is active. Thanks for the answer - worth a try. I have MARC and WISPERN (V-Law) in and hear nothing. The last time I heard them was on MARC and EC County/Altoona PD were participating as well on that detail.

In the Milwaukee area, I've heard WSP Air Speed Enforcement on 171.575 PL146.2, but it's been a couple years and that was before WSP cutover to WISCOM.

I actually am hearing them now on ECPD Law 3 which is 155.025. Mystery solved.....just have to focus a little better I guess. Sounds like they are having a lot of success!!!!

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Marc 1 if I remember correctly. Simplex.

Also I saw some FB chatter....which I know isn't always (or ever) reliable of Altoona PD running a "speed trap" yesterday as well. So that may of been what I was hearing on ECPD Law 3 mentioned above. It looked like an officer on a bridge with a handheld radar and then reporting to chase cars via radio.

I'll keep trying as they run more aircraft details in the area and see if I can nail them down. Now it is a challenge!! Will be interesting if maybe other parts of the state will chime in with what they hearing.

Again - thanks for everyone's input and information.

Earlier this afternoon I heard several D1 troopers on WISCOM WSP SW3 talking about getting into position for there speed wave enforcement. Air 1 then came up on SW3 and told all the units participating to switch to WSP AIR on the conventional side on there kenwood radios.

I looked over my programming and it looks like the last time I excluded the WSP VHF frequencies. Will add 171.575 and see if that helps next time around. Most likely will!

Thanks!!
