WSP / JWIN - Puget Sound

Could other 'locals' chime in please:

Is there any traffic on the WSP/JWIN system at all in the metro (District 1, 2 (especially) & 7)?
I'm on the eastside/north end of the lake) and I occasionally hear WSP conventional, but most all WSP traffic is on the 700 system.

I'd like to hear what others are hearing here - and around the state.

You'll pretty much hear the same talkgroups on the both systems. The two systems have an ISSI. You will hear districts 1,2, and 7. If you're in the Seattle area, I'd try to listen to site 6 for district 2 stuff. If you're trying to hear district 7, you should listen to site 9.

I never do.. I was wondering why, except for maybe my location.

I can hear traffic on both JIWN Site 8 and JIWN Site 10 from my location in Puyallup.

Because units have to affiliate with those sites first -- and since those sites are not heavily used by WSP, you're not going to hear much of anything.

Units in the Seattle metro area are going to be on the 700 Mhz system as per their programming.

I can hear traffic on both JIWN Site 8 and JIWN Site 10 from my location in Puyallup.

Due to the fact that these units are NOT in the Seattle area. Site 8 has a very wide coverage and is very active.

I do too most of the time; however, I believe IWN groups take precedence over WSP. So if you're looking for WSP then you'll want to stay on the 700 system.

I just monitored Site 6 for about 30 min and the only group active (besides IWN groups) was 59209.

Which caused me to 're-evaluate'.

I have a SRH77 (144/440) which I modified a bit to fit a 100.
(Dremel a collar on the end to fit down into the recessed SMA on the 100)
That and getting rid of all the 0 lat /0 long and out of area sites and sure enough, JWIN traffic is heard

Downside is that JWIN is harder to use rectangles on because WSP statewide is all 1 dept.
So, I hear everything.

Please keep in mind that it all depends on ** IF ** there is any radio units that are affiliated onto that system and site nearest you. The traffic may not always be present.

Make your own department then. It’s easy enough.

Where I am now hearing JWIN (from everywhere) now is mainly on Gold - site 7.
Keep in mind, I'm at the N end of Lake WA - almost to the Sno co line.
But, RF / line of sight as it is... (Or Diamond makes real good antennas...)

Since the 'silence period' over the past couple of days, I'm now hearing D2 traffic on Gold.

Note: I'm hearing Gold primarily because of my location and line-of sight.
Gunnysack and Cougar are closer, but behind hills where I am at.
