DMR NXDN ANALOG not yet. Can you put it on your hip and leave home? Can you mount it in your car? It is a Stationary niche thing right now.
Is why I have not invested in one.
When UPMan was still with us we reported a problem and we got updates.

The P25PX will be my next scanner just waiting for it to come back in stock so I can order one.
The SDS200 has a new firmware only on the new ones they say the keys are brighter that would be a plus for us who already own one.

Uniden does not "owe" us a firmware update. While some updates corrected certain operational aspects of the scanner, there is no implied requirement that new features be added to scanners already sold. You see the same thing in the automobile industry. Unless the change is a safety related recall, none of the manufacturers will ask you to come in so that they can give you a feature found on newer models.

I think many people got somewhat spoiled when UPMan was still around, and in reasonably good health. He was much more active on discussion forums than I've seen from representatives from other product lines. While Paul was not the only person at Uniden that dealt with scanners, he was the driving source that pushed for updates that corrected specific issues. He also was the "idea man" both for improvements on a brand new model, as well as adding some features to previous models, such as adding DMR & NXDN capability. One thing that, unfortunately, we may not see is a release to use the extra ports on the SDS series scanners, like the micro-USB port above the power/data mini-USB on the SDS100. Nothing specific was mentioned as to what they might be used for, so no guarantee that is in the works. I hope I'm wrong, but there was not anything specific announced.

The P25PX does DMR and Phase 2 now. Do you put a SDS100 on your hip? Yes, you can use it in your car (see the video on the Blue Tail website.) The owner/developer is very active with updates in response to trouble reports (just like Upman was.) The SDS series is also a niche product at $700 plus another $50-$100 to have Jon Wienke fix the bad workmanship (as you know from experience.) I understand it is of no interest to you, but it is brand new so give it a chance rather than publishing untruths. Thank you.

I realize that they probably can’t answer, but I’ve been wondering what the Uniden retailers have been hearing from company representatives. At one time, I think a couple of retailers were active here on the forums. I would think if Uniden is truly still in the scanner business, then they should be providing some type of support to their dealers.

Sorry the last I read DMR was not working. What about NXDN and ANALOG?
I told the owner if and when he got it working on DMR and NXDN and stable I would buy one to test. But I see no reason to buy something that will not replace or enhance what I own. FACTS. Right now my JONWEINKIE repaired SDS100's run circles around this device and it would not enhance my current setup. ANOTHER FACT.

They haven't released anything since upman died and since covid, I'm not sure they have been able to get back on track since then, or to find a replacement for upman ,(like u can replace him, he's irreplaceable).

Uniden's attention is focused on their next gen scanner the SDS-1000 HDX. The one I mentioned back in March 2020 (no one believed me). I'm sure the Uniden Product Dev team read my RR post from last March and though thought "yeah Techys right .... we need to make a kick-ass scanner with more professional build quality." So they had a zoom call with their collegues at ICOM and AOR. No more of this consumer level plastic case cr@p. Lets go with metal clad shielding, Big rubber wheel dial, option blinkly light external speaker, multiple VFO, USB-C, Tuck that Cat-5 connection to the back and put in more high end features yada yada yada. ( I made a wish list back in March you can re-read)
Wait till Spring 2021 and Bazinga the SDS-200 will be old news.
Uniden will make Scanning Great Again

It's not April 1st yet !!
Why such a phantasmagoria ????
In Uniden, they are not able to assign any FW functions for free USB ports and will they be preparing for a new digital scanner ????
Another unfinished business on the market without a chance to catch up on fw repairs !!!!
And we all want that ??????

Hardware, firmware, software; in that order. I think too many (lay) people misunderstand the purpose of firmware. It is really an extension of the hardware. It's the code needed to bring that board of chips to life. Now that everything uses Flash memory to store firmware, it seems many have gotten either spoiled or feel entitled (to needless updates).

We buy these products with a specific set of features. Since when should a manufacturer give us more features for free? Now if there's a specific bug in the firmware, that's different. It's like someone bought a truck with a Magnum engine and expects the manufacturer to "upgrade" it to Cummins or Hemi for free (not saying those are necessarily better).

OTOH, perhaps Uniden and others are missing out on "up sale" opportunities. Certainly you can't do more than the hardware will allow, but if you can add features with code updates, and charge a reasoanble fee for such, then why not? Perhaps there's not enough profit in doing so.

x36HP & SDS100

they used to have a weekly firmware beta release and semi regular prod release

constantly fixing bugs, improving reception/decode, etc

but no more. Y? The great product support was a big reason I’ve invested thousands into their products 🤦‍♂️

I never recall updates on the firmware coming that often. Are you sure you're not thinkabout about the database updates? They still come every week.

Maybe they already fixed all the bugs and improved everything else. That would be a good thing!

It appears that a lot of the research, development, and personal support died when Paul died. It's obvious now that everything stopped when he died. They still honor the warranty which is good. We were definitely spoiled with all of Paul's personal support and passion for the hobby.

It's true Paul contributed a great deal to the design and development of Uniden's scanners. However I doubt Paul was the only person. He was only one person who worked in marketing. To think he was the only one developing hardware, firmware, and software is unrealistic. Uniden's "engineering group" is in Japan. I don't think for a minute everything stopped when Paul passed. I don't think Uniden would have put everything in Paul's basket.

And yet the evidence says otherwise. Not saying that he was a one man show but everything died when he did and he was not replaced.

What evidence? Despite a few minor bugs, the SDS series scanners appear to work fine. Just because we haven't seen any firmware updates lately, that doesn't mean the SDS scanners have been abandoned at Uniden.

My Ford Edge was a little over a year old in May. I've only had one firmware update since I bought it, and it has 7 computers onboard! If it works, they don't change anything, so no new firmware.

What is it you think Uniden should be changing or fixing? What evidence? What died at Uniden? How do you know he hasn't been replaced?
