My Ford Edge was a little over a year old in May. I've only had one firmware update since I bought it. If it works, they don't change anything, so no new firmware.

What is it you think Uniden should be changing or fixing? What evidence? What died at Uniden? How do you know he hasn't been replaced?
If you will read the entire thread you will find your answers. There is a list of things that could be fixed by firmware updates that people have submitted to Uniden but nothing came of it.
And we are talking about Uniden Scanners, not Ford Edges, no comparison.

It's amazing what you call "working good"!! The worst quality control in the industry. At this point Baofeng is turning out a better radio!! For $600-$700 I have been through 2 in less than a month. The first one died in less than a week. The second one about 10 days. There is absolutely no excuse why 2 radios of this cost should fail in less than a month. Yes, it is going to Uniden under warranty, but that doesn't change the fact that I have paid $700 for a radio that has worked less than a month since September 2, 2020.

If you're unhappy with it why don't you sell it? They still command nearly full price on a used one.

Different targets but the concept is the same. You might correct problems but you don't re-invent something someone has already purchased.

Exactly, I totally agree with your statement "you might correct problems ". That was all that anybody wanted when they turned in problems to Uniden. When Paul was alive and active, the problems were getting fixed. Ever since he unfortunately passed away, the problems turned in have not been addressed.

I think many people got somewhat spoiled when UPMan was still around
This is honestly true. Remember that a lot of the frequent firmware updates that we got were beta updates that you couldn't download through Sentinel. Paul spoiled us by posting a new beta firmware every Friday for us to test. It sure was exciting to get a new firmware update to play around with every week or two, but we can't expect that to continue now with Paul gone. Who else would allow anyone on a forum to freely test beta firmware? Uniden probably didn't even like that he was doing it.

I bought the SDS200 because of the steps to the future.
I don't care about his appearance. Only the abilities and those disappointed me with Uniden's inability to complete the SDS line.
If there is no development or repair of FW, there is no reason to buy SDS scanners!
So it makes no sense to develop new types of digital scanners.
It would be unfinished again. Uniden scanners can return to old channel / bank scanners of the UBC72 / 92 type.
The future of radio communications is rooted in 5G technology, especially as it pertains to Emergency Service Communications. Companies like Motorola & Harris are investing heavily in the technology. Once deployed there will be no products, available to the consumer, able to monitor those systems. The only real questions is how long is it going to take?

My radios are all working fine. I see no reason for firmware updates. The weekly updates back in the day were the DMR betas. There were also fixes. Radios, as long as they working, don't need regular updates

Unfortunately I think you might be right. With the corruption and secrets running rampant in our country "they" don't want us to be able to listen to anything other than fake news!
There is something to be said for that but you won't hear it on the news.
We have read the entire thread we have been posting from start.
I really feel like Paul was the Uniden scanner program and now that he's gone... I don't see future production of more advanced scanners nor do I see anymore firmware updates. As I said in the past many of the firmware updates were part of a work in progress and were necessary to straighten out issues. As with any new scanner it takes a while to get it as close to right as possible.

If there was someone at Uniden working on the future of scanners I think they would have put out at least one firmware update addressing some of the more reasonable wish list items.

Considering this is government, as well many counties/regions/areas have spent millions upon millions of dollars building infrastructure for near continous ground level coverage digital trunked systems either statewide, county or region, that they own and maintain and have control over, thats a good question for scanner enthusiasts. When will firstnet surpass the capabilities or benefits of their current systems? I think it already has in some cases but when will they dump the old for the new. time will tell, I think firstnet is a very viable option for any agency looking to upgrade today without spending local money on infrastruture

It will never work think about it CELLPHONE.
1. Fireman use radios as forceable entry tools.
2.Police use radios as a self defence tools.
3.City Government upgrading PHONES/RADIOS every 2 years NEVER FLY LONG. My local area response is THE RADIOS ARE ONLY 20 YEARS OLD WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. Our VHF backup repeater is 20 years old as are the VHF backup radios and our county trunking system has not been supported for 20 years and the people that pay the bills want to know what the problem is.
