Hello all West Virginia Scanner enthusiasts. I am going to be making a road trip in April that will be bringing me through Putnam County on route 73. I am creating some West Virginia favorites lists for my SDS radios to use in the truck wile traveling. I see no sites on the WVSIRN system for Putnam County. I do not want to bog the radio down searching for unnecessary sites. Can anyone familiar with that part of the state let me know what sites I should upload from the neighboring counties that would be in range of Route 73 in Putnam?

I'm not familiar with a Route 73 in Putnam County. However, I'm not a Putnam County resident or native, so I can't say for sure it doesn't exist. Could you mean Route 35 or I-64? Anyway, I do pass through Putnam County from time to time. I program my scanner with sites from Cabell County (I think it's Milton) and St. Albans in Kanawha County. I've read that there are two sites that will soon be under construction within Putnam County. But for now, I think the county relies on sites in adjacent counties.

@DanKC8PAE, I just looked it up. WV Route 73 is a short highway that exists in Logan County. It does not go through Putnam County. You may want to check your route numbers again so we can make sure we are giving you info for the area in which you are interested.

Fred is right if your going to be in Putnam Co., St. Albans & Milton are the two towers for now. Let us know if it is Logan Co.

get or use a GPS and set the miles to 0 (zero).
and check the services you want to listen to. (PD, SO, DOT, EMS...)
that way the radio will not try and listen to a tower a hundred miles away, unless it can be heard where you are.

Thank you for the info. I did put the wrong route, We will be traveling route 35. I will put the Cabell and Kanawha sites in that you mentioned and keep an eye open in the future for Putnam County sites to pop up.
