Back in the 1970's when I was in high school in Hawaii (Oahu), my parents went to Kauai for a vacation and I flew out for a weekend from Oahu. Being a shortwave listener, I was interested in seeing WWVH. They graciously agreed to go on a side trip there. As we approached, every point on the dial of the car radio was playing WWVH! We got out and went up to the door. There seemed to be just one guy working there, but he seemed glad to have company and gave us the tour. Standing outside, you could see we were at near sea level at the base of a large cliff to the East. The man told us that was so they wouldn't cause interference with WWV in Colorado. I was hoping to meet the woman who made the time announcements but discovered 'she' was just a small magnetic drum device. :)

Cool bumper sticker they sent you!

I live on Molokai and we go to Kauai pretty often. Our next trip is in May. We are going to drive out there but the website now states that they don't do tours. That would have been nice.

It wasn't really a formal tour but the employee did show us around the place.

I spent some time on Molokai back in the mid to late 1970's working on clearing a trail through Wailau valley (Sierra Club service trip). We hiked in from the leeward side, down the pali and made camp about halfway to the beach. When we left a week or two later we hiked back up the pali. I was younger then! I will attach a photo taken at the top just before our descent into the valley.

Small world! Beautiful picture and a great memory I'm sure.🤙🏻

I was looking at the brochure they sent me and it says people can stop in during business hours but the website says no tours. We are going to drive out there in May and ask. The worst they can do is say no. 👍

Sounds like they may show you around then if you're just a small group. Probably they just don't want busloads of tourists. I doubt they could fill a tour bus advertising WWVH tours anyway :)

That's a bloody nice image. I hope you don't mind, I thought that would be perfect for a 3D conversion.

Yes, it is just begging to be converted to 3D, isn't it? Looks best to me with the red lens over the right eye.

I used to have a friend in Seattle who would go up in his airplane and shoot 3D slides by shooting one frame and then the other after some short time interval. The plane having traveled several hundred feet between the frames. He had some spectacular 3D photos (viewed with a stereoscopic slide viewer) of the Cascade mountains.
