• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've been a way from this thread for a while.....

Regarding the Kenwood NX-300 channel knob, you don't remove the plastic stop on the radio under the knob. You have to shave or cut the plastic stop off the bottom side of the channel knob to allow it to turn continuously. The bump stop on the bottom of the channel knob is part of the knob's plastic and you can't pull it out. Changing back to a hard stop at 16 channels requires replacing the channel knob with a new knob. Not a big deal really. The CPS has a setting for the channel knob to have 16 channels or continuous channels. This is so simple to implement that I wish other manufacturers did this so it can be configured the way users prefer. Very often the best indication of a clever idea is its obviousness, AFTER the fact.

Unfortunately I no longer own my NX200, I traded it over a year ago, and I can assure you, that the channel stop is able to be removed. it has nothing to do with the knob itself, but is seated on the radio between the radio amd the knob. No need to shave anything.

I even sent it with the radio when I traded it for a XPR6550.

OK cool. Shaving the stop off the channel knob was how I did it with my NX300 portables because I didn't want to touch radio itself in any way. I no longer own my NX300 portables since I sold them several years ago. The buyer of them preferred a continuous channel knob instead of a hard stop at 16 channels so it was a non-issue.

I'm selling off my Hytera portables as I slowly move away from Hytera in favor of Motorola. I just got a brand new UHF XPR75550e Capable model MOTOTRBO portable and also went for the high capacity 3000mAh battery. I didn't go for the Enabled model due to more $. I will be selling my UHF PD982 portables as I replace them with XPR7550e portables. I like the X1p so I may keep it for now. My UHF X1p has more wear and tear on it than my PD982s have so it's not very sellable anyway. So for X1p or XPR7550e, I now have both. :)
