I think I am right about this: The x36 scanners do not look at the strength of the CC signal and then begin to look for a stronger CC when the current one falls below a certain threshold. Is that correct?

I have a P25 multiple site system that I would like to set up this way. And it would be great to have the option to set up my state's system (STARS) that way at times, instead of the GPS.

Any options to change sites other than manually switching sites or using GPS?

That is correct. The x36 will stop on a CC signal meeting a minimum strength and will "dwell" on that site for a defined period of time. After expiration of time (and no applicable voice channel grants), the scanner moves on to another site.

On the other hand, "system radios" will look for another site with a stronger signal if the current site strength starts falling off. Of course the radio will have to have permission to affiliate with the "next" site on the talkgroup it is using.

You could set up Department/Site Quick Keys to turn off undesired sites (probably a pain, but do-able). There isn't anything that allows you to directly "jump" to a given site on this model scanner, that I am aware of.

Thanks for the information. I do have sites set up by quick keys, so I am managing ok. I did create a new scan list for my local system and placed CC’s for all three sites into it. I figure I can cut the main list off and this on when I am going to an area where the main site will drop off. We’ll see how that works. It won’t get used much, though.

1 - If you press FUNC, then press Dept, it will hold on the current site.

2 - If you press FUNC, then press Dept and turn the knob, it will allow you to scroll between sites.

If you do option 1 first, then do option 2, you can manually switch between sites.
