does anybody know if those new digital police scanners like 250D & other's digital scanners pick up Xcel Energy trunk system? if any of you know, please let me know. that be helpful thanks!!

The pro-96 picks up xcel's digital system here in Denver. The system in New Mexico and the system in Denver share the same system id of 3a16, meaning that they are the same system. The Pro-96, the bc-796 will both work on the system.

Xcel Energy has a trunked radio system in Lubbock Texas with the System ID of 3a16 also. It is digital. However, it is not APCO Project 25 compliant.

The PRO-96 locks onto the control channel just fine. However, when someone speaks, the radio switches to the digital mode and tries to decode the signal, but it cannot. There is either a data stream type of sound or the radio mutes.

I think that the Xcel system, at least in Lubbock, is a Motorola ASTRO VSELP. An earlier form of digital than Project 25.

okay...the pro-96 will work with xcel trunk system when the scanner locks on the control channel & hear someone talking too? bc-796 work same as pro-96 or not the same & not with voice?

What are the freqs for the Abq Xcel Energy system? I'll load them up and try them out on my Pro-96 and get back to you.

Xcel Energy trunk system & their service areas are eastern new mexico & west texas. i don't know if they cover albuquerque but maybe east mountain area. just look at the Xcel Energy system on radioreference database or how about i give you roswell area frequencies for the system. for the roswell area is: 856.9625, 857.9625, 858.9625, 859.9625-control channel, 860.9625. i hope this is helpful & then try it if you travel east to somewhere in eastern new mexico.

My 796 would not decode the digital voice (guessing it was voice) on several sites in West Texas. Maybe as the system was moved out to reach NM and CO, they use newer radios and digital schemes.

I think we need someone out there to run trunker on the system and see if it's showing up as digital, or encrypted. It may have also been data of some sort.

Can someone send a sound clip of what the audio sounds like?

It shows up as a "Gd" in trunker, so it's a digital talkgroup. I'm pretty sure they don't use any sort of encryption. Their old digital scheme is enough!

Which sites did you monitor? Whenever I was there in June of 03 ..

Sites 1,2,3,6, and 10 said they were Type I. Site 10 was an exception to that set as it said it was ASTRO.

Sites 5,9 and 27 said they were Type II.

Cell 26 was also monitored from Lubbock (I don't know exact location)

I have added my spreadsheet to try to figure out the sites. You can see the freq list under the names of the towns that those freqs are licensed. Those with only one town, must have those freqs and licenses, so the site # given must be in that town.

i monitored from roswell & roswell site id is 918. that shows up on radioreference database. but i don't know that is type 2 or type 1. anyway those two scanners bc796 or pro-96 pick up the system?
