• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am posting this just in case someone else has run into the same issue. I think my XE500 RSM is defective because when I change channels using the channel know on the XE500 it doesn't always switch to the proper channel. The channel selector knob on my APX6000 works perfectly every time, but when I use the channel selector knob on my XE500 RSM it will sometimes work and other times it won't. It typically switches channels on position 1 and 2 properly as it should, but when I move it to position three it sometimes changes to the channel but most times it does change the channel. Sometimes it will change the channel and then a few seconds later switch to the previous channel without me doing anything.

Like I said, I think my XE500 needs to replaced or repaired but I just wanted to check in case this is a known issue others have run into.

Just curious, what firmware version is your 6000 on?

I sent the XE500 back to the seller and they offered to replace it. However, when I get the new RSM it does the exact same thing. When I turn to the 3rd channel position using the channel knob on the XE500 the channel does not switch. However, using the channel knob on the APX6000 itself works no problem.

That's a loose channel knob with a broken piece inside. It probably the most common failure point on the APX radios and RSM. Can you PM me the serial number. I can check if it's still under warranty. You'd just have to find a proper Motorola dealer near you to get it fixed.

Thanks a bunch! I will post that serial number as soon as I get off shift. I did purchase it on eBay so I have no hopes for it being under warranty, however, is it something a Motorola repair shop can fix?

Yes, a shop can take care of sending it Motorola and have depot fix it. They may fix it in house if they have a good bench tech though.
