• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My understanding is for control head upgrades you must connect serial to the head and newer heads can be upgraded with CAN connected, older heads maybe not.
Still no joy. CAN connected or not, I get timeout errors.
I hooked up an oscilloscope on the TX and RX lines of the serial cable and there's no response from the control head to the programming software.

Do you have the right serial port and protocol specified for upgrading the firmware?
Yes, I'm following those instructions. I can't successfully get through the very first BurnApp portion with SUploadBurnApp.bat. SUploadBurnApp.bat sets the serial baudrate and the instructions clearly stated to not move on if the procedure doesn't work.

I can watch on the oscilloscope as the SUploadBurnApp.bat sends commands to the control head. The message on the control head changes, but there is no response from the control head on the serial cable. And eventually SUploadBurnApp.bat reports a 'Timeout has occured' error.

The 'Timeout has occured' errors continue until the program fails and I get a punt code and some other info

On all the heads I upgraded BurnApp finished wtihout any notice that it was successful but I went to the next steps and it all worked.

Here's a cheap fix. CH721 control heads are a dime a dozen on ebay. Just buy another one and hook it up. If it works, toss the dead one in the trash and move on. (Save the volume knob cover.)
That's the next step at this point. My friend has the same radio and control head, I'm going to test his and if that's all it is, I'll drop $100 on two heads, I was toying with having two heads in my truck anyway

I'm getting errors when I try to upgrade BurnApp and even if I go on to MainApp it immediately errors out
