I am transition from EDACS to P25 Trunking and was wondering if any of you have steps to make an XG-75 act as a scanner by not affiliating or transmitting the radio system. Also, do any of you know how I can enable channel announcements for a channel change on the XG-75? Thank you in advance.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Assuming it is a portable, I note from the latest software release bulletin that you need at least 256 MB of flash in the radio.
To find out the flash size you need to use the RPM Radio Maintenance utility, and select the Radio Information button. The flash size will be displayed under Hardware Info.
The P has no restrictions on band, type, part number or hardware revision other than the flash size. The M lists various part numbers and revision levels by band that can support this.

To make the radio receive only, you go into the P25 Trunked system setup screen and on the right side there is a section called Auto Registration; use the drop-down box to select "Never", save and reprogram the radio. That should do it.

You need to record the voice files separately and then upload them to the radio via RPM.
The files can be in 16 bit .wav or .ilbc format and must be less than 3 seconds long.
I haven't experimented with this yet so I can't tell you how to actually program the files into the radio. Id intend to experiment with this, though.

We have played with annunciation and don't use it in production. It takes a while to load and just further complicates the personality.
