• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
My XL-185P has started forgetting the wifi networks I program into it for access to wifi for programming.
I've had to reconfigure my wifi at home and when I did, I went to update the info in the radio and found that it did not show the network I'd just programmed into it. Is this a known issue?

I've not yet been able to establish contact with the radio via RPM2 but I kind of expect that. My current wifi access point doesn't support mDNS. I've got a compatible one coming, and it's not here yet, but I've been playing with various settings in hopes that there's an undocumented combination of inputs that lets me connect to it NOW. So far, no. But with the radio not showing the wifi network I just programmed into it, that could be a problem. I may have to wait for the cable to arrive, which is likely even farther out.

It also has the full, all-band NIFOG personality in it, and if I spend time messing in some zones that are out of band, the radio locks up solid. Clearly there are some bugs in its current firmware release. I'll be updating the firmware as quickly as I can.

If you are adding a network from the front panel in Wi-Fi programming mode, I’m not surprised at all that it forgets the network on power cycle… kinda how any FPP gets erased when you load a mission plan again. You aren’t altering the mission plan when you FPP, you are altering the loaded plan temporarily and loading the mission plan from the program screen overwrites any changes you made with the mission plan file. Not surprised.

Without mDNS, I don’t think you will have any luck, but also make sure RPM2 has Wi-Fi programming enabled in settings. Without that, it’ll never work!

I've finally been able to make the 185 connect to the wifi network but it would seem that I have more to do. Will the radio appear, or not appear, in RPM2 if it doesn't have a personality in it that is not wifi enabled? Because I'm not seeing that but I'm positive that the PC is connected to the same network.

Unfortunately I'm still some days out from having a programming cable.
