• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Compared to? I have a handful in service and am very happy with them but without context of the user requirements and operational environment no one can answer your question.

Hello, thanks for the reply. As compared to a Kenwood TK-2180, in daily law enforcement in weak VHF signal areas.

From a LE use perspective it does very well in terms of features, audio quality and ergonomics. It is a very expensive option just for VHF analog though.

I have a requirement for about 30 VHF analog radios for FD interoperability and found it more cost effective to deploy the XG-15p in VHF alongside the existing 800MHz XG-75pe radios the users had than to migrate them to the 200p. While a fully featured 200p is still cheaper under most contracts than a typically featured APX6000, it still comes in heavy for analog conventional use.

Also, keep an eye out for the XL-185p, it is a single band version of the 200p. At the moment it is only offered in 800MHz and 900Mhz but that could possibly change at some point.

Will the XL 185P do Ham 900 Mhz?
Not to hide jack the thread but you mention the radio
Not positive off the top of my head, would need to go back and see what the coverage spread is but I kind of doubt it.

Tried doing to ham 902/927 split on an XL200P today. No good - invalid frequency.

Also the XL200P WILL NOT do 5 kHx operation on ham UHF frequencies. YUCK!

My APX8000 works fine wideband on both 2 meters and 440.
