• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

First off I’m not a radio expert so hang with me here…I was just issued a new XL-45P radio by my department and I’m trying to figure this thing out. It has the “caller ID” and the user can add contacts from the radio itself. I have had no issues adding “contacts” (unit numbers based off the radio ID) but after adding 20 contacts it is no longer saving them. I guess my question is, does the radio only allow 20 contacts? Am I missing something? Any tips or suggestions are welcomed and again I apologize for being a little radio ignorant…..Thanks in advance!

Caller ID should populate as calls come in. The limit may be 20, I’m not sure. You may want to explore an iCall list or an Alias list, but that will require access to the mission plan as these things cannot be done from the front panel. (An iCall list can be set to reserve some places for manual entry, but the number of entries is limited.)

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Once I got my 185 set up I noted that the caller ID list populated itself pretty quickly. At first I was a bit concerned that they may have been i-calls that had been directed at my radio which had me a bit worried that I'd duped a supervisor's LID or something. Out of an abundance of caution I rewrote the personality with a different LID and the behavior remained the same so I stopped worrying about it.

If by "contacts" you mean adding to the "User Icall list", yes, there is a limit to the number that the user can enter from the keypad. We had the same issue with the XL-45 and confirmed via TAC. From RPM2 you can add as many as you want (I think), but the user entered list is stored differently and is limited.
