I hope this is not a stupid question… But does anyone know what the frequency(s) are for XM Radio and or other satellite based radio.

Thanks,

I'm glad this made it here. I was going to ask the same question, especially since I just put the Roady II in my Sport Trac!

Thanks!

And you may be able to catch an auxiliary feed in the 940-952 MHz range, if yer really desperate...

Why?

Why would you want to know the frequencies for xm. You can't hear it with out decrypting the digital...right??? I think the format is aac plus by coding technologies using neutral audio. And I think a frequency for xm is 2632.5 with a 12.5 Khz bandwidth. I say this frequency becuse it's not in the band which crayon said I may be wrong any input for this qustion would be great.

And what is an auxiliary feed and repeaters for? I always thought that xm came straight from the sat. to your radio. Do the radios act like cell phones to in certain circumstances. :?

The repeaters are used in large metro areas where the sat signal would get blocked by buildings, overpasses, etc.

Dunno dude. I did some quick googling for 2632.5 and really could not find anything about it being used for xm ... *shrug*

ok. Thanks. So xm satellite radio is not exactly xm satellite radio thats Interesting. In some instances any ways. You would think some of these trunking companys would do the same thing. But probably a little impractical. :?

Ahh, the big lie!!
Tell the FCC you need the band for "Satelite Radio" (Too cool to ignore)
Get the band.
Then deploy a terestrial service.

Hmm, wonder how long it took them to think of that?

I don't know where you came up with that one. All programming comes from their satellites. The only places where the satellite signal is repeated is in large metro areas and then only for coverage problems.

Where I live the signal is 100% satellite. In my downtown area there are places where I loose signal because of buildings. When I travelled to Atlanta, the XM kept right on going in between buildings and when stuck in traffic under overpasses.

Home units are sat only

The Delphi unit I have for home and mobile use looks like it only uses the satellite signal at home. The mobile docking unit has 2 antenna connectors (yellow and green) and the home unit has only one.

The ground units are for fill in around tall buildings.

Josh

P.S. I really feel the service is well worth the money. I travel in Nevada a lot and it's nice to have clear radio reception.

They must have other reasons as the site in the photos above wouldn't apply to the area where it's at as it's all open. There's another one down the freeway, probably several miles. We do have a lot of satellite uplink sites throughout the area (three+) so maybe it's a noise issue. :?:

Since I do service at hospitals & have XM I have discovered quite a few terestrial XM transmitters near hospitals.

BTW, if you have a SkyFi, with power off, you can press (in series)
2,0,7,XM then toggle the display till you get the screen that shows Sat1 Sat2 & Terr. That's how I found the terestrial xmitters around hospitals.

BTW: I wish I could upload my scanners to XM & get them wherever I am, that would be cool to listen to my home PD & SO from hundreds of miles away on the road.
