xp2 update and pro 92 software problems?

Hi all, after doing the xp update, my 2 pro 92 sotware programs will not upload to my pro92 anymore?
the 2 programs I use are win92
and ScanPro92' Both have developed the same problem
the problem is when I upload to my scanner= pro92 the scanner does not reconize the upload like it used to? The screen stays on clone mode ready to upload? The screen used to change to show the upload to the scanner with a progress bar, now nothing> Do you think it was the xp 2 update that is causing the problem, Or do I need new software?Or is there a pro 92 software that works with xp-2 update?

my pc shows com port 1 in use com port 2 avaliable via the win92 program and Device manager , but when I select com port 2 using Win92 = same thing will not upload to scanner? still stuck not able to upload ?

I am using V00.46 also.but for whatever reason I can't upload to Scanner , both Win92 and ScanPro92 would upload to pc but after xp2 update , that will not upload?

Other then some complaints with V00.41, I see nothing in Revision History which would apply. Maybe this is a new bug with service pack 2.

Did you try the program after going into "security" and temporarily disabling the Firewall - this may be preventing communication between the scanner and the computer - worth a try.

I will try and shut down my Mcafee firewall next time I upload and see what happens, I don't use xp's firewall. I'll try it Sunday, No time now Back to work. Thanks for the suggestion

If you made the mistake of upgrading to SP2 as it is obvious you did. (yes SP2 can be nice but I have yet to find a need for it)

Then you probably have alot of stuff running that you do not need running.

One of them may be XP's built in firewall.

Even though you didnt turn it on it is on by default after the upgrade.

Also might want to check out http://blackviper.com He has done extensive systems checking and troubleshoting to see exactly what you do and do not need to have running after the upgrade.

You may simply have a small stumbling block in there somewhere.

I have the complete MS security center turned off , My firewall is Mcafee firewall plus, and I have used Black Vipers page since the inception of xp to turn off uneeded processes, running in xp .And the xp firewall is OFF for sure= not running.
I have narrowed it down to ,I am going to turn off my spyware applications and startup guard program and firewall= McaFee and see if 1 of those is causing my upload to the scanner isssue, if not I will review the processes I have turned off, to see if one of those is stopping the upload?

It seems whatever it is does not allow com port 1 or com port 2 to communicate to the scanner? more of my time will go into this untill I get it resoveled.[ I do appreciate all the help] but I still think it has something to do with xp2 update somehow? will update as soon as I narrow the upload problem down.

I have the same upload problem with 2 pro 92 programs = 1.win92 2.ScanPro 92 I can not upload to my pro 92 anymore, i used to be able to with both programs now niether will work? . I am wondering if the xp-2 update caused these issues? I know it has something to do with the com ports? I am currently usin blackbag 1 way cable wich came with the ScanPro92 software that does not upload anymore either. http://pro92.com/ With all programs turned off, firewall etc.. no upload? I can not verify scanner with win92 and win92 says com port 1 already in use so I choose com port 2, the seems to work since i don't get the com port warning message, but win92 can not verify my scanner? When I try and verify scanner I get this error message from win92= could not locate scanner [timed out 01 48 03 52 sequence] ? When I try to upload the scanner window stays at *clone mode* up to send. remove cable to exit, it used to change to a progress bar showing the upload? the win92 program has a progress bar window that comes up and shows writing to scanner but the window on my scanner never recognizes the upload stays at *clone mode* up to send. remove cable to exit? I am at a complete loss ?

I am now wondering if it could be the 1 way cable possibly? does not make sense though the cable worked in the past.
Bottom line is no uploads yet?

I have tried everything I can think of but for what ever reason the scanner is still not recognizing that an upload is being sent to it? The Win92, version
V00.46 says com port being used so I switch to com port 2 and the window shows data being sent to my PRO 92 a but the scanner does not change from clone mode /ready to upload to pc? it stays in that window , Unlike it used to change the window on the scanner showing the upload to scanner bar?

I am at a loss still?

You do NOT verify scanner until after upload to scanner.

This may solve instillation problems.
My Computer> Control Panel,
Folder Options then select view tab.
Near the bottom, deselect the block "Hide file extensions for known files".
Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.

The above may not be your problem because you have opened the program. Check anyway. :wink:

Thanks fmon ,I already have my xp pro system set the way you suggested above= hidden files = show etc..
I think this guy using win95 and a pro95 has the same problem I have, I think I will install win92 on my daughters upstairs xp home pc and see if will upload to the scanner on it, Just like this other fellow there must be something wrong on my xp pro machine that will not upload to my pro92 , com port issue?
anyways check out his thread I know his is a pro 95 but i's the exact same problem i am having?=

Never have found what is using my com port 1 on my xp pro machine so I went upstairs and used the daughters xp home dell machine and loaded my scanpro 92 program and it uploaded to my pro92 just fine as where my xp pro machine will not upload to the scanner using either scanpro 92 or win92 programs= com port 1 being used by something on the xp pro machine?
Anywho I do know now that it is not SP-2 update related since my daughters xp home dell also has been updated to the sp-2 version.

The only thing I have figured out after[ WEEKS] :x of messing around with my xp pro machine is that something don't know what is using com port1 which apparently must be used either with scanpro 92 or Win92 both because if I chose the option to use com prot 2 with eiter program that did not upload either? Apparently both programs are partial to com port1.

The main thing is at least now using the upstairs pc I can once again upload to my scanner

And yes I did go in and shut down all running programs. firewall. antivirus etc. But whatever is using com Port 1 is still a mystery. using task manager was no help either>

But for now scanner is re-loaded with my new current freqs, for Peoria and pekin IL area, which is a good thang. 8)

Go into msconfig, click the startup tab a see what is there. Something is running that is using that com port. Its not that hard to track down.

It's not XP regular or Pro with SP-2, I have both and can use Win92 on com1, 4, 5, 6 or 7. However, if my HotSync Manager is in the tray, then com4 is used by my Palm program.
