Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Guys & Ladies,

I am looking for suggestions for a mobile antenna that will work with the XPR 4550 series 440mhz radio. I have the mag mount antenna that came with the radio that I am renting from the local Motorola dealer I am just looking for antenna that I can use and works really well for me to be able to access the local Mototrbo system.

I can't setup a fixed antenna type setup due to the deed restricted neighborhood laws and guidelines. I tried using the mag mount antenna I was supplied with from the dealer. The local system is about 10 to 15 miles away I can use the radio in my home I just need a antenna that I can easily take down.

For the car, drill a hole for a nmo mount. Center of the roof is best but center of the trunk will work quite well also. Its the best solution. Antenna selection is endless for these mounts.

For the house with deed restrictions, do you have access to an attic? If so I would suggest building or buying a 440MHz yagi and pointing it at the repeater you want to access. Or put an omni direction in the attic for Omni coverage. If you have aluminum siding, foil backed attic insulation or a metal roof this could pose some problems. Another solution would be if you have a deck or any outside area. Put together an antenna setup on a pole you can sneak out there when its dark and operate for a while then take it down before first light.

I do have access to the attic I was thinking about putting up a Yagi antenna but which one do I need to purchase? The local Mototrbo system is 440 mhz will the one's at Ham Radio Outlet or Amateur Electronic Supply in Orlando work or do I need a certain one that will work for this type of radio? Also what kind of coax cable connector?
