• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I didn't see where this was discussed at all but I wanted to get some input. With the 4550, or more so the TRBO line, It APPEARS that you can use the same digital contact ID more than once with different names and assign them to seperate channels of differing "systems".

IE let's say Business A uses group 1 as its talkgroup and it's labeled "BIZ A". Then you also have Business B that uses group 1 as its talkgroup and it's labeled "BIZ B".
You create to contacts with and ID of 1 and then set the correct one to each channel. WIll the radio (or should it) see these as different?

I have something similar to this setup but it appears that even though the groups are set right on each channel one of the channels seems to display the wrong group name on transmit/receive. IE the "BIZ B" channel shows a contact/group of "BIZ A". It is programmed correctly and the correct groups show for each channel.

Any ideas? Is it just as simple as you can't have duplicate contacts? I'd love to get some insight.

Yes, that is a shortcoming of the radios. I have several places I listen to here that have the same TGID. I just end up programming it as TG 20.

I really wish they would limit the contact name to the programmed RX groups on the channel.

Makes sense. Probably why all the cheaper Chinese variants just simply don't allow duplicates at all. Another way to get around it would be to have an option to just NOT display the contact on TX and RX.

Moto's take on this seems to be that the TRBO line is typically used on a single system, so there wouldn't be any need to have the same contact with different aliases. This is unlike the Astro line for example where multiple systems can be programmed with contacts independent of each other.
