• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We are interfacing a series of XPR4550's to an IP based console setup. We have made all audio adjustments via our gateways GUI. The audio just sounds hot (audio from console mic.) I know there are input adjustments in the CPS for the external TX audio input on the back of the radio. Wondering if anyone has any tips on where to set the settings. The audio sounds "tinny" and distorted at high levels... I know I can back the audio down but looking for a sweet spot to start with.

If you have tuner, tuner lets you adjust the audio output of the radio. The way to do it is connect the radio to a service monitor. Feed a 1000hz tone to the radio and adjust your frequency modulation in tuner until you see 1.5khz on the monitor. This requires a TIMS and a service monitor. Is the radio connected to a tone remote adapter?

Assuming you have the radio connected to a punchblock, the TIMS is connected to the TX pair and then you feed a 1000hz tone to the radio. The service monitor is connected to the antenna port. The Frequency Modulation on the Service Monitor should show 1.5Khz. It's really the only correct way to adjust the audio. Otherwise you are just playing the guessing game in tuner until the audio sound good.

You're probably noticed but there are settings for the mic jack as well external audio. Also, make sure AGC is unchecked. I'm probably pointing out the obvious but it's easy to overlook.

What IP console are you using?

Remove AGC and adjust your audio in the CPS, not Tuner. I also find that using Data PTT instead of EXT PTT makes a control station sound a little better.

This is interesting, not sure why the PTT mechanism matters but will give it a shot.

Data PTT will change the TX audio characteristic and give you all little more bottom end I find.

I've never messed with their console but I have messed with their VPN gateway which is nothing more than a Mikrotik RB450G (or the current version) with the price marked up $200 over cost configured as a VPN server/client.
