To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I got a used XPR 5550 and have been trying to update the firmware but continue to get error 8862 after it reaches around 85%. I am currently on firmware version R02.00.03 codeplug 01.00.18. I have all of the upgrade firmware from R02.40.00 up to current. after googling i found one person that was able to fix the error by updating to R02.06.33 first unfortunately when I contacted Motorola they told me they no longer have that firmware avalible. Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice on how to get the firmware to update? I am using the rear port for programming and have already tried using a brand new computer with nothing but CPS installed on it. I do have CPS 16 from Motorola.

Sometimes when an upgrade is from very early FW to the newest, it can’t be done in one shot. Many people on the Gen 1 radios with 1.00.00 wanting to go to 1.12.17 need to go to 1.06.00 first. Then from there to 1.12.17. While Moto doesn’t have the 1.06.00 any more, people may still have it on their computers. Hopefully you can find someone with the FW you need already on their computer. Good luck.

When upgrading that way you can't just jump, you have to upgrade in steps.

@Tech21 yeah I know everything should be stepped up with the updates I did that with my xpr 7550s. My issue is I can’t do it that way since I can’t find the R02.06.33 firmware and Motorola doesn’t seem to have it anymore.

That's suck and all but it's an easily avoidable problem. Do more frequent updates.

I too have the same issue with my XPR5550 going from R02.00.03 CP:01.00.18. to R02.06.05 CP:10.01.14 and have been trying to update the firmware but continue to get error 8862 after it reaches around 67%. I even tried going to R02.09.00 CP:14.00.13 with same results. What was the solution to resolve this?

sorry just saw your post. Yes I was able to update. I was missing the next firmware update in the sequence but once I got it I had zero issues getting it up to date. I did notice that if I did not use the rear port to update and tried to do it with the front face it would hang up on me.

I have a XPR5550 and trying to find firmware 2.09 but looking in my MOL account I don't see that version listed anymore. Can someone point me to where else I might find it?

It is always helpful to check your Moto account frequently and download every version of software and CPS and archive them. Moto did that with the XTL/XTL software. You can't get the newest .10 version unless you call Moto and open a case. They REALLY want you to send your radio to the depot, every time.

That’s a good point, off topic but with the XTL5000 being end of life what is the current firmware version I should probably check and see what mine is running.
