• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an XPR 5550 that I’m attempting to read/ program. I was able to program said radio last week without issue, and now that I am attempting to read/ write to it, the computer is saying it is unable to detect the radio.
I have narrowed it down to the radio itself being the issue because the computer sees the cable when attached, and radio chimes when the programming cable is connected, but the computer does not see the radio. I have tested the cable and computer on another 5550 without issue.
I’m thinking with the last programming it had updated and caused some issues in the radio. Is there a way to recover the radio without using the CPS, since its unable to be read/ written?
Firmware R02.10.10.0001
Error code: 1001687
Thanks!

Not a problem with the radio. This seems to be a common problem with some computers. My friend has one that will only read / write to one radio and no mas. Mine did the same once. Eventually I had to reinstall CPS after that I didn’t have anymore trouble. The radio should get discovered as a network. Just say yes to whatever it asks in regards of the radio being a network. You might try another USB port before nuking and reinstalling the CPS. Be sure to save any files you have somewhere else before doing that.

Hmm, I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on another computer to test it out on. I was getting worried it was the radios accessory port. If all else fails I will try reinstalling CPS. Thank you!

I attempted a new computer, reinstalled CPS and have tried both the rear accessory port and the front accessory ports again without success. Is there a way to recover the radio without using the computer, or a way to try a “hard reset” of the radio?

Often this is just a conflict in the IP routing capabilities of the system you are using -- Check that the Radio device IP packets are not being routed to the Internet or somewhere due to a DHCP assignment to your system....
