• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi I have a XPR 6550 that I use for my fire department that operates in the 154 range. But I also want to use it for ham radio 144-148. Currently the antenna I have on it is "Combination VHF/GPS, 147 – 160 MHz, Helical Antenna3(PMAD4068_)" What I am wondering is this antenna ok to be using? I also have a XPR 6100 which I have the following antenna installed on it "VHF Wideband, 136 – 174 MHz, Double Helical Antenna6(PMAD4088_)" It works very well I talked to a friend on simplex who was 19 miles away with it. I am wondering if I should purchase another one of these for my 6550. I know it does not have the gps antenna built in but we do not use that anyways. What is the difference between a helical antenna and a "double" helical antenna? I determined what antenna was on my 6550 by using the color code chart.

Short answer is yes you can use the 147-160 antenna on ham. The 147-160 is what it is tuned for and is the ideal range. Using it 3mhz out of that won't destroy the radio or your performance.

I use the PMAD4067B 136-147 and PMAD4068C on Ham 2 meter.

Combination VHF/GPS, 136 – 147 MHz, Helical Antenna (PMAD4067_)
• Combination VHF/GPS, 147 – 160 MHz, Helical Antenna (PMAD4068_)
• Combination VHF/GPS, 160 – 174 MHz, Helical Antenna (PMAD4069_)
• VHF Wideband, 136 – 174 MHz, Double Helical Antenna (PMAD4088_)
