• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I saw a recent discussion here about replacing the display bezel on the XTS5000 and was wondering if anyone knows of a source for XPR 6550 display bezels. I've tried Google searches and have looked on ebay as well with no luck. Mine has a number of deep scratches but the rest of the case is otherwise in acceptable condition.

Thanks...

What bezel are you referring to? The XPR 6550 has a one piece front housing, no bezel.

I think he's talking about the piece of glass above the keypad that covers the display with the "MOTOROLA" logo in it. If that's the case, no, that piece is glued on with the housing and isn't separately replaceable. An OEM housing can be found for less than $100

Ah, display lens, yeah that's not a bezel hence my confusion. The bezel we were talking about in the XTS 5000 thread is the decal that frames the display lens.

If you go for an ebay aftermarket housing,, I've got to say that the 6550 was one of the housings they did a good job on, usually you can tell right away hinky aftermarket housings, but they did good on those

To add onto the above comment, I managed to get a new housing as part of the XPR6550 "rebuild" kit that included a new (but non intrinsically safe) battery. The new case worked well, it might have been true Motorola, and gave new life to my old radio. The only way to notice its age is the serial number and vent port shows a lot of wear from the atmosphere.....radio used in the oil industry for a decade, then re-cased. Auction site sold as rebuild kit....but I still needed to replace the volume/on/off pot as the click had failed and bumping the radio would turn it on or off.
