• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

XPR 7550e UHF
Model H56RDN9RA1AN
Firmware ID 0C78E1B906C54D3A8F264CE5C4F0B9DF
Firmware Version R02.10.05.0002
Codeplug Version 15.05.06
MOTOTRBO CPS 2.0 Version 2.110.120.0 (Legal CPS from MOL)

I have programmed an absolutely identical XPR 7550e (within 2 consecutive serial numbers) with a high/low power button in the past with zero issues. For some reason, despite trying to assign the function to several different buttons (at different times) I cannot get the function to work on this particular radio. I also have it enabled as a menu item in the radio's menu, and I can't see it there either. On channels that are set in the codeplug to high power, I can't select low, and on channels set to low power in the codeplug, I can't set high power. I've gone through this codeplug set by set but don't see anything apparent. Has anyone else had this problem?

All buttons check OK in test mode so I know it is not a dead button.

Clone the code plug from the radio that allows hi/low power into the radio that does not. Had a similar problem a year ago, & the clone fixed it. While I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t have solved it in a normal fashion, it accomplished what I wanted to do without having to beat my brains out.

I went back to the XPR 6550 from the 7550 for my personal use. Between stuff like this, the odd behavior I've observed on analog from several 7550s (and other TRBO 2.0 radios) and the fact that the 7550 has neither an SMA antenna connector nor an antenna connector for a PSM on the accessory connector, IMHO, if you don't need a color display, voice announcement, or Bluetooth, the 6550 is a better radio.

I have a 7550e, & a few 6550’s. While my 7550e has no strange behavior, I find myself using the 6550 90% of the time.

I have over several dozen 7550e models in use, and have never had a single problem with one of them. Non SMA connector is not a big deal. That's what the 5550e is for. I have never used a handheld with a mobile antenna. That's why mobile radios exist.

I too have never used any HT with a mobile antenna. But the RX on the 7550 is far superior to anything else, & you get the entire UHF band in a single radio instead of having hi, & low split UHF radios.
