The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just picked up a xts2500I vhf and it came with a rather long antenna so I tried throwing on my vhf stubby from a HT1250 but that doesn’t have the right connector so I tried a the vhf stubby off my xpr7550 and that screwed right in so I thought I was set but I came to the realization that I wasn’t receiving anything. I tried transmitting and that worked fine. Any ideas as to why this is?

FYI I also tried the stock xpr7550 vhf antenna.

The Xpr 7550 is a different connector then the Xts 2500. The Xts uses a SMA connector.

As far as I can tell one has a pin in the middle and one doesn’t but both antennas have the hole for said pin so I just assumed they would both work. That still doesn’t answer the question of why xts transmits fine with a xpr antenna

Because it does not transmit “fine.” Just because it transmits does not mean it is doing so effectively and correctly. I would bet you could transmit with no antenna and still receive the signal on what you are using as a receiver to test this if close by.

Fair point. Most of what I tried was with the receiving radio right next to me but I did try hitting a repeater in town and that worked as well. Guess it was just a happy coincidence. Thanks for your help by the way.

Absolutely do NOT use the XPR7550 antenna on any XTS radio. The 7550 antenna does not have a center pin. However the XPR6550 antenna does have the center pin, & will work fine. Matter of fact, I use the XTS antenna on my XPR6550, & 6350.

OH man.. We had a sales person years ago who tried to put a HT1250 antenna on a HT1000. Shorted the RF deck in the radio. HT1250 had no center pin and when she put that antenna on the HT1000 it shorted out the radio when she keyed up.

Duely noted, that’s why I inquired.

Well I’m sure glad that didn’t happen to me!

I do that for my XPR6580’s. Beats the dong of an antenna they come with.

Now, I actually have a VHF XPR6000 stub on my Astro Saber…
