• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello Everyone,
I am using a few XPR series radio's to monitor DMR Amateur Radio and Business communications. My issue with all of these radio's is the way the display is set up. It is really problematic when scanning. My issue is when the radio is receiving a DMR call, the display shows the Digital Contact Name and Radio ID/Unit ID. When transmitting a DMR Call it shows the Digital Contact Name. I'm sure there is a reason for this but I would much rather the radio display the channel name. I am using Mototrbo CPS V16.0 Build 828. If there is anyway to change the RX/TX Display to channel name, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Attached are images of XPR5550e base radio showing it receiving a DMR call and XPR5550 with HHCH used in my pickup showing it receiving and transmitting a DMR call. Not shown is the XPR3500 I have the same issue with.

Nope. The trbo radios always display the contact and UID on RX and the outbound contact on TX. This is one of the things I've always hated about the UI on these radios.

I had the same issue, using it as a DMR scanner as well. Solved it with a Kenwood. lol
I originally went with the XPR series because I saw where you could easily turn down output power down to as little as 1watt. I mostly use them to monitor/scan but occasionally will transmit on the amateur radio band (mostly hotspot). I was actually looking into replacing my base radios with the Kenwood NX5700, NX5800, and NX5900 radios, the only thing that turned me away, is that there is no way to non affiliate scan trunking systems. (Not that there is a way with Motorola’s, I use a Harris radio. Silly reason I know, but it was going to have to at least check a couple of boxes before replacing them)

rather the radio display the channel name. [\quote]

I am lost.. Who cares what Time slot "channel" you are on.. An these are all just text strings in the subscriber, set them to what you want in CPS.

Of course if you enable Talker Alias you get what the talker set --

LOL!! He screwed up the quote tags.

Yes, it looks that way -- Actually didn't even know it posted as my network connection died about that point along with power as one of the many frequent storms we have been having passed over the house.. Think that's what happens when there is no closing tag for the quote, but not sure.

Either way I am still lost.. Who cares what Time slot "channel" you are on.. An if you are using (seeing) the Contact list or Channel Names, these are all just text strings in the subscriber, set them to what you want in CPS. RE: Contact 2010 could be "Stn Mtn W4BOC" or "K4PKT TAC 310".

Of course if you enable Talker Alias (M2020.02) you get what the talker set / bridgemaster sends --

The trouble with that is when you have a common radio ID like 1 that's used on different repeaters / systems.

I guess you are correct if you have duplicate IDs then until you get to Talker Alias you can only have one "Contact" for each unique Subscriber Id. Personally, with a little up front coordination that's never been an issue and I have subscribers on 10 different systems/topologies. But I understand your point.
