• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

A fellow ham radio friend and /\/\ enthusiast like myself sold me an XPR3500 yesterday so I can start the exciting life of DMR. It worked fine up until about 30 minutes ago when all of a sudden it would not transmit on digital or analog. It acts normal otherwise including receiving just fine and sent text messages but does nothing when I press the PTT button. Anyone have any ideas on this?!?

I found the problem after I opened it up. The PTT switch became unsoldered. Three of the four contact points. I tried to solder them back and it worked until I powered the radio back up and now it steady transmits. I thought maybe be solders we’re connected so I separated them but still the steady transmit.

Well DMR was fun while it lasted lol. I got my money back and am in the market for another 3500 cause I’ve got all the accessories (minus the speaker mic) so just need the radio.

They go for pretty cheap. You could probably find one for $150 or so.
Yes sir already got another 3500 “R” split going to my buddy so he can program it. I popped off the PTT switch from the board and she’s good again. So now the unit can be used with a speaker mic which is not a total loss.

There is no “split” on the 3500’s. They do the entire UHF band Just like the 7550.

Again, there is only ONE UHF split. Back in the day there was Q which 403-433, R was 438-470, S was 450-482, & T was 470-512. As time went on, Q, or R split was 380-470, or 403-470, depending on the radio. That was called low split. There was also S, or T, & that was 450-512, or 450-520, again depending on the radio. That was called hi split. But today, on the Gen 2 XPR 3500/7550, the entire uhf band is one split. So while the tag says “R”, it’s not differentiating between low, & hi split as there’s only one split for the entire UHF band. Oh, the Gen 2 mobiles still have low, & hi split.

That would explain Gary why I haven’t seen any “S” split 3500’s. Very good info sir thank you and hope to hear you on DMR locally.
