Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know what the part number is, or if Motorola even sells, the control head speaker for the XPR5550/5550e mobiles? I need to replace one as its making lots of rattling sounds when the volume is turned up on the radio. It's not an electrical issue or distorted audio, it's clearly a physical problem with the speaker itself. I just wondered if anyone knew, that way I don't have to disassemble the head if it's not a part which can be replaced. Thanks in advance!

This was previously a fleet radio which was missing the RX-audio leveling feature before I added it, so the volume knob potentiometer is also completely worn out from constantly getting adjusted.

Do you have an external speaker you can plug in to the accessory plug? Only real choice you have is to call Motorola directly or find a local dealer and ask them real quick.

You can also find new control heads out there for around $50 which would replace your speaker and volume/power switch without all of the trouble.

Nope. Due to the install constraints that would not really work anyway. . .
Thanks, I hadn't even though to check the service manual. It has a great exploded view of the disassembly. I honestly don't love the idea of buying a random head off eBay if I can avoid it so I guess I'll see about contacting a CP tomorrow.
