XPR5550 Won't Connect to PC

I recently acquired a nearly brand-new XPR5550. When I try to read it with the MOTOTRBO CPS, it won't see the radio, and gives me an error message stating so. In fact, my PC won't even show that the USB port I have the radio connected to is even in use. I've tried this on two different PCs I have, and I get the same result. I recently used the same programming cable to program an XTL I had, so the cable shouldn't be the issue. Am I missing something?

What revision is your cable? I'm pretty sure you need a "C" revision for TRBO products.

I'm not sure. It's just a generic cable.

By "C" do you mean HKN6184C?

That might explain the part about "use a compatible cable" in the error message.

Yeah, I realized that after you responded with the cable suggestion. I had no idea that there were two different types of the same programming cable. I guess it's just another way for Motorola to separate you from your money. By the way, the error message was "Check connection to radio or use a compatible programming cable".

When you plug the radio in and power it up, where do you look to see if the computer sees it?

Also what version of CPS and what version of Windows are you using?

I find that occasionally I have to open my network configuration window on the computer, right click on the Motorola connection and select repair. Windows will repair the connection and it will work fine. When you plug a TRBO cable in, it becomes a network connection to the radio. Do an IPCONFIG and you'll see a connection for 192.168.10.2.
