If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just acquired a XPR5550e mobile radio, and I am trying to setup a DMR channel. The DMR setting is Color Code 1 and Talkgroup 99. I have the Zone and Channel set and the Color code. What I can't find, is where is the setting for the Talkgroup code. I have looked all over the CPS and unless its called something else, I can't find where you set the Talkgroup setting.

I'm sure I may be no way near doing this right, but I am trying learn the DMR stuff. I'm lucky just to get a couple of channels setup in this radio. So far, I have one analog semi-duplex channel and now I am trying to set up a simplex digital (DMR) channel. The analog channel does transmit and receive, and I am able to program a key for the talk around feature. The radio puts out just a tad shy of 45 watts.

The help file was useless, and I haven't found anything on You Tube so far. Of course, the installation manual only pertains to the installation and the user's manual appears to not have anything related to the Talkgroup settings. If that subject is in the user's manual it hasn't jumped out and bit me in the ass yet.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Digital Contacts. Also no reason to shout when typing the thread title.
Sorry, I was in my XTL5000 CPS and forgot twice. 1) when I noticed the first time when I saw it all caps and 2) forgot again after I first noticed before I sent it.

Thanks, I'll take a look in "Digital Contacts"

What is the "OVCM" Checkbox for? Do I need to change anything else? And, is there something in the channel assignment that I need to associate/relate this Digital Contact setting with or does it find this setting automatically.

I am going to just operate in the simplex mode with DMR. Do I still need to register and get a radio ID number just to use simplex?
Nope ID just like you would on analog. DMR has never met the requirements for ID'ing....you still need to ID with or without a DMR number issued by RadioID.net.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about a FCC License Callsign. I am referring to a specific System Radio ID number, and not a PT-T ID for the MDC feature, that IDs the radio for the system. This DMR stuff is all new to me and I am trying to figure this out.

My use for the DMR will be on a simplex DMR channel on a Part 90.35 Business Radio Service frequency..

No, a voluntary Part 97 callsign database isn't relevant to Part 90 operation. If it's your own system, devise an ID range that fits your needs. If it's another entity's system, have them select an ID for your equipment that lines up with their subscriber ID layout.
