• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently purchased an XPR6550 and I can’t seem to get it to interact with CPS. I’ve spent about two hours already going through the forums trying different troubleshooting strategies. Yes, the radio is on, cleaned the metal contacts, OEM cable and radio, and reinstalled all MOTOTRBO drivers and CPS on my computer. The radio is coming up as network, as should, and being detected by the computer, yet I’m still getting the error “1687 Unable to detect applicable devices.” However even after reinstalling and updating the driver and software, it shows under device properties “Could not start device.” Would appreciate any help or a point in the right direction greatly, thanks!

Which OS and version of CPS?

Seem to remember having a similar problem reading a 6550 by way of CPS 16 v828 on a Win 10 machine. Ended up swapping over to a separate Win 7 machine and that worked without issue. Could have always been a 'personal problem' with the Win 10 machine though.

I forgot to mention I tried on another computer, which was unfortunately windows 10, and CPS did still not detect it. I thought it could be a problem with the radio, but now that you mention the windows 10 issue that could be it, or the computer itself. I’ll see if I can give a try on a VM

I have Astro25 portable CPS on windows 10 and no issues with my XPR6550. And this is a problematic machine.
My cable is OEM PMKN4013xxx USB.
with 2 machins failing, your common points are your programming cable and radio.
A recent radio, I would look to the IDC connector. Could be an old techies radio and worked on by unqualified person.
Not following explicit disassembly/assembly procedures in the DSM, will usually cause such problems.
Bent pin on the front ribbon connector can do it.
Check your installation of CPS with another radio if you can. That can rule out your software and cable.
Hope this helps.
