• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I did a search in Google and on here first, so apologies if this has been covered...

1) Talk Permit Tone: is there a spot to program in a delay for the TPT? When you press the transmit button it sounds right away, which doesn't really work for a repeater. Using CPS 16.

2) I was using it to scan some fire dispatch last night, and I noticed it seems to mute when tones are received. Is there a tone mute option somewhere I'm not seeing?

Thanks.

Are you scanning with PL/DPL? Some dispatch centers strip PL/DPL from tone sets, and then your radio won't have met the criteria to unmute.

If it's a digital repeater, the talk permit tone will only sound after negotiating with the repeater, so it absolutely is the right delay. If the repeater is in use or out of range, you'll get the bonk sound instead.

If you're using it on analog to try to be cool or get the famous CopSounds ™, no delay is necessary at all. The analog repeaters should key immediately.

The first-gen TRBO radios (XPR6550, etc) seem to be real picky about the deviation on the receive signal. Too hot and the receive audio will cut out. My guess is that the tones are overmodulating the transmitter slightly, and this is what you are hearing as muting.

As far as the talk permit tone, I get what you're saying, and no, there isn't any adjustment for the delay. I have Kenwood radios that allow you to adjust the delay, but no such thing on TRBO radios.

You can turn the TPT off in general settings and use the PTT ID Sidetone and delay it, but it's not the same tone PTT.JPG

put an MDC ID on the beginning of transmit, with the PTT Side Tone set to short, youll get the same talk permit tone but it will have a delay to it.

Thanks for all the replies; sorry for not getting back sooner...

After some use the TPT delay thing isn't an issue.

As for the tones muting on that one channel, I'm not sure if it's a coincidence, but I changed the bandwidth setting from 12.5 to 25kHz and that seemed to "fix" it. Tones some through no problem.

A final question(if it's okay with the Mods): I looked in my Motorola account and can't find the S01.17.08 firmware. Is anyone aware of where it could be found since Moto doesn't support the 6000 series anymore?

Thanks.
