• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

XPR7550 firmware and codeplug question?

I have my radio setup now and it's great. My question is when you do a firmware update do you lose all the programing that is on the current codeplug?

When I received my radio it had the current firmware 4.xx.xx a friend of mine sent me a codeplug for NC and I tried to install it but it couldn't write to the radio so we cloned it in. That's how I down graded my firmware to 2.xx.. Everything seems to work just fine but I would like to have the firmware back to version 4.

If anyone has the newer firmware for there XPR7550 could you please email me a codeplug and I will just rewrite the programing codeplug.

It doesn't work that way.

The codeplug is the codeplug. Firmware is firmware. Two separate things. One does not come with or overwrite the other. Cloning a radio would not overwrite the firmware in the target radio. Someone else's codeplug will not match your radio's serial number (perhaps model number, as well). CPS will not write the radio when there is a serial or model number mismatch.

That's what I thought also, but my radio sure does say firmware version R02.06.33 right now and when I received it new on Monday it was version R04.XX.XX

The only thing I did was clone my friends codeplug when the CPS wouldn't write to the radio. I also have only been programing through a bluthtooth connection, but I keep reading firmware can't be changed without a cable
.

That's hard to believe considering Motorola has never released TRBO firmware for any radios higher than R02.

My fault everyone I was confusing the Firmware version R02.06.33 with the CP Version 04.03.08. I apologize for the confusion on my part and being a newbie...

I have found out how to program the radio over bluetooth with window 8, and a $15 bluetooth dongle. I wil try and redeem my self and start a new thread on it.

leaving thread humbled and a little wiser

CPS version R04? That's ancient if that's what you're really looking at.

TRBO CPS is at Version 10 right now. I don't even know if R04 CPS would even support an XPR7550.
