Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

First check to make sure the port isn't physically damaged or dirty from the outside. If it's not, then likely it's an internal ribbon or connection issue in the housing going to the board

i was afraid of that, the contacts are cyrstal clear, is it common for these to just stop working, the radio was just programmed last week, and there is no sign of exterior damage from someone attempting to muscle a connector on

I don't know if it's just bad ju-ju or what but I struggle with my 7550 (no e). Sometimes it works right off the bat and others I have to dink with it to make it connect with my program cable. I have 3 cables but only one works as this is due design changes in the cable. But yes, at a minimum when you connect a cable or a mic you should have the impress accessory thingy pop up on the screen. Make sure the connector is firmly seated on the radio and there is no damage that will prevent this. Not much leeway on this. Also make sure the pogo pins are not hanging up in any way. Try connecting with power off and then power up. Grab some alcohol or contact cleaner and with a brush give those contacts a good scrubin'. Beyond that you'll have to turn your attention to the internals.

I’ve seen it happen a few times when attaching an Impres accessory to a radio that’s on. I fix it by turning the radio off, then attach the Impres accessory, & then turn the radio on. That always works. And there is a mod to convert the A programming cable to the B cable. Had to do it a few years ago.

Try lightly scratching the accessory contacts with a metal tool. Sometimes you have to get through a thin oil or oxide layer. TT

I often use an old toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol.
Also consider a rubber eraser. Applying that to the accessory contacts (and sometimes lightly to the cable contacts) normally helps. If that does not work, then I second @K2NEC

Good suggestion. Beyond that, we had fiberglass pencils for when there was hardcore oxidation that a Sanford Pink Pearl wouldn't remove. I would advise against using a gum, vinyl or kneadable eraser for this kind of project.

You had to be careful with a fiberglass pencil, as it made fiberglass dust and would absolutely eat thru the finish on the contacts if you went to town on it.
