To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am trying to program XPR7580e's for digital direct using 3 frequencies and 2 timeslots on each for a total of 6 direct channels. I enabled the timing function for the timeslots and entered the TX and RX direct frequencies but the TX frequencies are in italic's. When I try to program them with RM, it always fails. Maybe I missed something in the error messages when it failed. Open for input and thanks in advance for any help.

Talkaround?

time slots don't apply to talkaround channels since they don't go through a repeater.

Are you trying to use Dual Capacity Direct Mode?

It could be out of band and the software isn't allowing those entered frequencies. Also what's the actual error code that you receive when you attempt to write?
Also if you can provide a bit more info on the radio, such as the band maybe even model number if you can provide it. This will be very helpful for others that chime in.

As soon as I check off dual capacity direct mode the tx frequency goes grey and italic which seems normal because the tx frequency is going to be the same as the rx frequency. In radio management try to write to a radio, once it fails right click on the radio and click analyze, then bottom right of the screen click analyzation results and that should tell you why its failing to write to the radio

Thanks all, Now I can at least get them to program once I looked at the analyze results. It was the extended direct range. However the TX frequency is still in italics and I get a bonk when I key. These are 800 MHz radios with a model number of AAH56UCN9RB1AN. Still trying and thanks for more help if you can.

Again, what 800 freq’s are you trying to program? Can you program 900 freq’s? These are dual band 800/900 radios, but some 800 freq’s are blocked unless you get the Canadian full 800 band EID.
Similar to the idea with Canada Full Frequency Range, which lets you program npspac frequencies if you can show that the radio is going to be used in Canada. The entitlements for wideband and Canada Full Frequency Range are free. I got the EID from a Canadian source because certain portions of the 800 band were blocked.

create a group call under digital contacts, then assign that to the contact under the channel tx settings. Digital won't work unless there's a contact assigned.

I got it and I definitely appreciate all of the input. The digital contacts was the key
