The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Has anyone actually connected a mic and ptt to the Aux Mic and Aux PTT pins in the accessory port of an XTL 2500? Everything says it should be possible but I have not been able to make it work. I have seen a few posts where people talked about it theoretically -- but no actual experience.

If so what mic did you use? Where there any other settings or hardware changes (other than connecting it) required?

The GPIO pins on the auxiliary port need to be programmed accordingly. As well as provide the correct signal levels. The PTT line is pulled to ground to activate the AUX_MIC input. The microphone should provide about 80 mVrms for 60% deviation and has an AC impedance of 560 ohms. It should be connected to TX audio and Audio ground.

WA0CBW, thank you for the response.
The programming settings I find are related to mic voltage and gain (auto or a value). Are there others that I need to attend to?
Do you know of a specific handheld (potato-style) mic that has those characteristics? All the mics I tried gave me no modulation at all.
You mention "Audio Ground." All three grounds of the radio: digital, audio (aux jack pins 1 and 14), and chassis seem (to a meter) to be exactly the same. Is there some difference? Which one is "Audio Ground?"
I am beginning to believe I am missing something obvious.

The pins have a function as described but you have to program the pins for that function. I would guess you got no audio because you didn't program the pins for the function you want. The programming software has a pretty good help screen for each pin.

Again, thanks for the response. Is that pin programming available in CPS? What tab? Is there any chance you can send me a screen shot of that page/tab? I do not recall any place where I can change the function of the aux connector pins.
