• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

**Disclaimer** I am new to the radio world and learning what I can, so bear with me...

I have a VHF motorola XTL5000 configured in remote mount. As stated in the subject, i am now receiving the error code of FL 01-90. From what ive read, this is some sort of communication issue. The control head is mounted in my headliner. The remote cable runs from there, down the B pillar to the rf deck which is mounted under my passenger seat. Not sure that this matters, but I am running a 5/8 wave antenna with 12' of cable. All external fuses are intact and there is power at all the connectors from what I can tell.

Backstory: the radio has been installed for about a month now and is used by myself when working in the capacity of a volunteer first responder. Here lately, someone has been keying up very often without traffic on one of our two repeaters. I decided I wanted to add the nuisance button in, and when I went to program the radio, it turned off as normal and then started up. When it started, it flashed the before mentioned error code and went into maintenance mode. I do think this is a communication issue because I connected my mic (it is the full keypad mic) to the rf deck as it lights up under normal operation when connected like this. It now is not lighting up. Additionally when using the same port with my laptop, I can not gain a connection. This being said, I'm thinking that either A.) Communication has failed at the control head, or B.) The rf deck has had an internal break down. I'm leaning towards communication as it occurred during a program.

So, my question is A.) Has anyone had this issue, and if so what was done to correct it, and B.) Does anyone know any repair shops that aren't going to break the bank? I don't want to spend alot of money on it as it doesn't make me any

I did grab a picture of the control head, but apparently the server cannot process it. But basically it has gone from green (the color I have it normally operating in) to red, saying maintenance mode in the header with remote device underneath. It would be important to add that I did try switching com ports on the rf deck, but I have not tried on the control head as that would require me dropping my visor lights and headliner which is a process I don't have time for at this point in time

There's about half a dozen threads about this topic on this page. The search function works great to find them

While I understand your point, I have searched and searched and I haven't found a direct awnser, atleast not one dictated where I can understand it. As stated previously, I am new to the radio world and I apologize if this post is causing issues

FL 01/90 can be any/all of several issues:
-Bad data cable between head and deck
-Power issue with the deck
-Bad head
-Bad CHIB
-Bad TIB
-Bad CHIB to HEAD flex
-BAD TIB to Brick flex
-Corrupted programming not causing the deck to properly boot.

Sometimes FL 01/90 can be rectified by moving the blue data cable to another port on the TIB and/or CHIB. Its a generic code that says "for some reason I do not have communications with the deck". Most of the troubleshooting is going to require pulling hardware out of the vehicle.

If you think the radio brick is bad, what programming cable are you using? GCAI or J2? If you are using a J2, and get nothing, than your brick has a problem. If you can read and write via J2, than it's remote cabling, bad TIB/CHIB, or something else.
