• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is it possible to swap an XTL2500 control head electronics into the shorter XTL5000/O5 black housing? I would like to flush mount a new XTL2500 in a 2 inch space (Havis console) currently occupied by an Astro Spectra, but the XTL2500 head has that stupid flare out on it and won't fit the space. The O5 head is 2 inches high, no flare, so it fits.

If Motorola sells the plastic housing for the O5, would anyone have the part numbers?

I believe you can switch the electronics.

I know theres a little rubber "switch" inside the O5 heads that can trick it into being a 2500 M5 head. A Communications.Support member did a write up, however that site is no longer.

Hopefully someone here still has that write up saved...

I saw that...after you remove the back electronic board, you pull out the keypad bar and cut off the little 6th rubber "finger" next to the 5 rubber keys, rotate it 180 degrees and put it back in the hole. Can convert an M5 to an O5 or O5 to an M5 and switch it back at any time. Hoping Moto sells the housing and buttons without needing to buy the entire head.

I have been browsing Wiscomm, but it's difficult to determine what parts are what parts. I know what a button and a lightpipe is, but not having luck figuring out what a faceplate is called. A housing seems to be a remote backing.

M5 to O5 Caveat...

Just be advised the actual button rubber bit is different, so make sure you get the O5 rubber, too (one of the posters above indicated the same thing but I just wanted to make sure it was clear). I've done a shedload of these and it works great. Good luck!
