If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XTL2500 going into "Maintenance Mode"

I have an XTL2500 with a remote control head. Radio functions as expected. The problem arises when I turn off the squad. The radio shuts down as it is supposed to do, but then after about a minute the control head powers back up and displays "Maintenance Mode" and I think is says Remote Device under that. I can just press the power button and it shuts down without any further issues, but it is starting to cause a problem with draining the battery.

Any suggestions?

There is a known firmware fix. This should go away with a firmware lift at R19.60.00.

XTL2500 Maintenance Mode

This problem will also arise if the power to the transceiver brick gets shut off but the control head power remains hot.

You may be onto something with this one...This is a definite possibility...Remote head powered, but trunk unit powered down.

I shall report back when I am able to dig into this further.

Thanks for the thoughts thus far.

We've run into this here in Nashville with the remote control heads. It seems that you have to plug in the accessory plug, either to the radio or the remote control head. There are two pins that are for an external emergency switch. The accessory plug has those pins jumpered together so that they disable this function. The orange emergency button will still work regardless. The ignition sense wire and/or the speaker wire doesn't need to be connected to solve this problem.

The installation manual for the XTL is VERY specific about how to install the radio with a remote head, which wires need to have power remain hot at all times and what the voltage parameters are required to be.

In short, the red lead from the radio drawer and the red lead from the control head must BOTH remain hot at all times and go to the same source. The grounds (black wire) from the drawer and the head must BOTH go to the same ground point. The yellow ignition sense wire from the control head, in order to function correctly must go to a true igntion source, and must go low or very close to zero volts when the car is off.

ANY voltage differentital between the two red leads will cause unpredictable results in operation. When wired correctly, there should be neglibible power drain when the unit is off.

MAINTENANCE MODE - REMOTE DEVICE

If you have FW version R17.00 or newer, but NOT R19.60 and experience this issue when operating or powering up the XTL mobile, upgrade your firmware to the newest revision. This is a known firmware issue caused by a bug in the firmware release.

The FSB # of that quote please, I've been searching for said FSB. . .

TY

EDIT: Disregard! I found it in the notes of firmware R19.60
