• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The perils of affiliating are well known, as are the mass of problems that come with it. The xtl5000 does the type 2 and astro trunk NAS with no issue. The problem is the xtl2500, which has the proper flash-code, does work with type2 NAS, and p25 conventional, will not hear the system.

It was brought to a local that does the admin of a private system. Looked it over and bench tested it to no avail. It is an older model that was re banded. Said is could not talk or hear their system. Again, let me stress this, it was brought to the appropriate staff member. To the extent that when asked if they could swap it with a unit that was being dumped, they declined [didn't know that trashed stuff was destroyed, thought it was auctioned or recycled].

I hear it may be that the processor is not enough. Was told its too far down a rabbit hole on the tech end for the shop to look at. On a side note, it will scan the system in conventional.

Any ideas?

These units are used with properly licensed conventional frequencies in areas near highways and its less cumbersome to have a single unit in the trucks that's durable because they take a regular beating. They have wiped out some scanners but have yet to take out a W3 xtl5000, just a mic or 2. The xtl2500 is a better option for the supervisor trucks. Since there's not much to be done, the expense for an o5 xtl5000 is out, they don't need all the "bells and whistles", just a front display.

I do the installs and removals. And am somewhat knowledgeable in the mechanics of these so I'm the one doing the leg work.

From what I have come understand since my post, it is an ancient RB one and the existing codeplug was used. It was not re-flashed or anything for the bench test. They ordered another one, this one will go into the parts bin.

Too bad there isn't a separate transmit and control board like the old Jedi series of xts lines of portables. Once its boned, you toss it, what a waste!!

Thanks anyway.
