• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is there any way to hook up the speaker connected as shown in the picture to my car’s audio/ aux without going to crazy on wiring? And adapters?

I would suggest you do not go there. The audio amplifier in the XTL radios (and most Motorola radios) is very sensitive to what speaker you connect it to. It will burn out fast if you don't know what you are doing.

The mobile radio audio in my old company car was wired to the vehicle onboard audio speaker system. The answer is yes but it has to be properly engineered. It's just speaker audio levels that need to be matched and/or properly amplified accordingly.

No. That's amplified audio...and it's a push pull PA so when you connect it to your AM/FM either one of two things will happen...you'll blow the input out if sleeve is isolated from DC ground or you'll short the PA on the radio out and not have any audio anymore.

Use the accessory connector and pull RX_Audio if you really want to hook it up to your car's AM/FM.

Some police vehicles do have the passenger door speaker disconnected from the audio and has leads in center console area to hook up to two way radio.

That's a factory option from the manufacturer actually. Ford CVPI's and PI Utilities had info for where in the harness you could cut and wire into either the front left or front right door speaker. GM might have had the option in the PPV as well. Someone I seem to remember using a plug jumper that you could unplug and then plug in a replacement with splice leads to the radio output (maybe that's a current GM PPV option as it sounds similar to the BCM flasher option for external switches once the BCM is flashed for the option). Horrible use of the OE speakers though...put the speaker up on the partition by the operators head. Easier to hear in noisy environments without the distortion some speakers (cough...Motorola...cough) have issues with at higher volume levels (there is a reason my POV and county truck both have KES-5's for all of the speakers regardless of radio manufacturer as I have a mix of Motorola and Johnson in my trucks).
