• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey, got a 5000 with the 05 head and want to power it on just to be sure it works. Also to disable the ignition senses which I think can be done in the cp. Alas, I've dug around and I don't have a cable. So one is ordered, but this time of year who knows.

Is it just a matter of applying 13.8 to one of the 25 pins? If so, what pin?

Pin 25
XTL Radio - W9CR

You might also have to put a jumper between pins 14 & 15

Ok, no joy. Hum. Well I don't want to fool around too much. Guess I'll need to wait for the sense cable to see if it works. The guy posted pictures of it powered on. Hope USPS didn't play soccer with it.

Try to jumper 14 and 15 first and then power up. If that doesn't work then put 12v to pin 25.

EDIT: Also make sure you are putting power to the right pins, the numbering can get a little confusing.

I tried it in the sequence you stated and nothing. As for the pins, they are pretty clearly marked with pin ref numbers at the top and bottoms of each row.

That should have worked then. Is your power supply supplying enough power to the radio and ignition sense?

Yes. It's a Dimond GZV4000 more than adequate.

Will do. But I have a feeling something happened to it in shipping.

Is there any visible damage to the radio or any distressed packaging that would suggest that?

No the radio is super clean. Hardly a scuff on it. The box however looked as if it were at the bottom of a palate. Not crushed but looked worn and not firm at all. He wrapped it well in many layers of bubble wrap and peanuts. I do believe him that it was working when he sent it. I think once again the Christmas crew the usps adds on this time of year got to it. I'll just eat it and try again later. I was so hopefull to add this in my console. Oh well, what are you going to do.

I'd wait for the cable before jumping to any conclusions. Just to be entirely sure.

It didn't take much research on what you gave me to realize, that should have done it. It's a brick. I'll order another.

Inhibited is an easy fix on an XTL...But if your going to throw the radio away maybe someone would want it for free

It's not inhibited. No power-up. We are working on it.

Also looking around I found this to confirm the pinout and it's right on. In this, they were explaining how to make a programming cable from a stock moto HLN6863. So it all looks right on the pinout
.
